This activity is designed for general neurologists. Other healthcare professionals, including physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, and pharmacists, who treat patients with headache may also benefit from participation in the educational activity.
Paradigm shift, or shattered? The thinking around both preventive and acute treatment of migraine is amidst a radical change. From a new class of treatment targeting disease-specific pathophysiology to emerging therapies incorporating neuromodulatory devices, practicing clinicians will get up to speed on key treatment advances transforming migraine care. A case series will demonstrate how new information can be placed into practice.
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
1. Describe new advances in the pathophysiology of migraine, a chronic neurologic disease.
2. Develop treatment plans in line with standards of practice for acute and preventive management of episodic and chronic migraine.
3. Discuss unmet patient needs and burden of episodic and chronic migraine.
4. Analyze safety and efficacy data for emerging therapies in acute and preventive treatment of migraine relative to current standards and clinically meaningful outcomes.
